Marble is a very beautiful material that has many timeless applications. It is defined two ways: as a stone that has been re-crystallized (geological definition) or as any limestone that will take a polish (the commercial definition). Usually marble is found in mountainous areas. Many marbles have tremendous color variation and require specific slab selection. Some marbles require reinforcement with fiberglass net backing or filing. Most marbles are soft and therefore used decoratively on interiors only (not exteriors).
Marble is ideal for bathrooms, formal floor applications, walls, fireplace surrounds and vanity tops. Ease of care, beauty and elegance make it a top choice for homeowners.
Marble is not recommended for kitchen applications as it is more prone to stains than granite.
The vast majority of the marble we use is imported from Italy. The quarry pictured at the top of the page is located in Tuscany.
